There are two types of text (or fonts).
Bitmapped type fonts are stored as single characters made up of dots that are called to the screen as you use them. In some cases, these fonts appear "jagged" in appearance. The Terminal font is one example.
Outline type fonts (TrueType fonts and Multiple Master) are composed of filled-in outlines, and are built as you use them. The Arial font is one example.
Usually programs convert their fonts to bitmaps to allow the playback computer to present the text in graphic form. (In case the playback computer does not have the font installed.)
